VNA home health aides are certified. Under supervision
of a registered nurse or therapist, they assist patients
with personal care services such as bathing, shampooing,
shaving, skin care, mouth care and linen changing.
These activities must occupy the majority of a home
health aides' time in your home. The remainder of
the time must be spend assisting with meal preparation
or light housekeeping if these are assessed by the
nurse or therapist to be necessary for care. Some
home health aides have specialized training as parent
aides, rehabilitation aides and supportive care such
as mental health. If you live alone, or your spouse
is disabled, the aide may also provide additional
tasks as assigned by the primary nurse or the therapist,
depending on the situation Home health aides do not
provide any heavy housecleaning.
